TAF Twitter Space | Colonial Era Power Dynamics

July 5, 2025 3pm Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) | 4pm West Africa Time (WAT) | 5pm Central Africa Time (CAT) | 6pm East Africa Time (EAT)

On Saturday, 5 July 2025, TAF Central Chapters will host a critical dialogue on Colonial Era Power Dynamics, focusing on how neocolonialism continues to shape Africa’s trajectory today. This event will be held on Twitter/X Spaces, providing a platform for reflective voices across the continent to speak truth to systems of domination that have long outlived formal colonialism.

Speakers from various African nations will critically explore the ways in which economic, political, cultural and digital power structures remain externally controlled, replicating colonial dynamics under new guises. From foreign-controlled mining in the Congo, to the influence of the Kissinger Report of 1974, to Western media reshaping African identity, the discussion will unpack the visible and invisible chains of neocolonialism.

Participants will draw from lived experience and national case studies to interrogate:

- The role of local elites in sustaining foreign dominance
- The deep impact of Western currencies, debt structures, and trade imbalances
- Foreign military presence and proxy politics in governance
- Technological and digital dependency
- Environmental exploitation and climate injustice
- The systemic drain of human capital and social infrastructure
- The event will also explore African solutions rooted in sovereignty, unity, and indigenous systems of thought, emphasizing how Africans can dismantle the scaffolding of imperial control.

TAF invites all members, partners, and the broader public to tune in, engage, and contribute to shaping a truly decolonised future.
