On Saturday, 27 September 2025 (5:30–6:30 GMT), TAF Sierra Leone, a Country Chapter of The African Federation will host a panel discussion examining the dual challenges of health care and education reform in Sierra Leone, with lessons for Africa at large.

Sierra Leone’s health system, still reeling from past crises like Ebola and COVID-19, faces persistent underfunding, weak infrastructure, governance gaps and inequitable rural access. At the same time, Africa’s education systems require urgent reform to prepare future generations with relevant skills, digital literacy, and equitable opportunities.

This session, moderated by Abu Bakarr Sesay (Country Chapter Head, TAF Sierra) and featuring Hymanson Sesay (Representative for TAF Narrative, TAF West Africa) and Francis B. Swaray, will:

  • Critically examine the systemic weaknesses undermining Sierra Leone’s health care
  • Explore sustainable reforms beyond donor dependency
  • Engage participants through polls and Q&A to shape reform priorities
  • By situating Sierra Leone’s experiences within Africa’s broader struggle for resilience and sovereignty, this dialogue will inspire action towards structural reforms that deliver for citizens and contribute to the continent’s long-term development
