Recent corruption scandals have been widely exposed on social media, highlighting widespread corruption across various government institutions, including Parliament. This corruption severely hinders the successful implementation of several government programs, particularly those aimed at extending agricultural resources such as seeds, fertilizers, oxen, tractors, and irrigation devices to local farmers. Much of the funding for these programs has been diverted for personal gain. This includes funds from the Parish Development Model (PDM), designed to foster local production and self-sufficiency. This corruption leaves the government struggling to fulfill its commitments to the local population.
The African Federation, through its focus unit TAF Governance, is committed to combating corruption at all levels and restoring integrity to many government institutions. Their goal is to encourage the successful implementation of government programs. On Saturday, March 16th, TAF Uganda will host a discussion exploring how corruption in Uganda is hindering the country's ability to achieve food self-sufficiency.
