TAF Environment | Greenwashed Imperialism
2pm GMT | 3pm WAT | 4pm CAT | 5pm EAT

This discussion explores the intersection of foreign investment, concession frameworks and environmental governance in Africa, with a focus on how these dynamics play out in resource-rich countries. We will unpack how foreign-controlled extractive projects impact ecological integrity, community rights and national sovereignty. Join us here.

Greenwashed Imperialism

Our theme for the month of June is
Neocolonialism, imperialism and agents

The mechanisms of control run deep. What appears as partnership functions as control through loans, trade deals and policies that shift power away from African states and towards external interests. These systems operate through structure, consent and the cooperation of those within. Understanding how this influence is sustained and by whom, is key to reclaiming Africa’s right to define its own development.

Neocolonialism, imperialism and agents

This month’s Policy Paper peels the layers of neocolonial influence in Africa. It looks into how control is maintained without direct rule and how dependency is reinforced through systems that reward alignment with external agendas. Breaking this pattern means looking beyond external pressures to also confront the internal actors and beliefs that uphold them. We are calling for a deeper understanding of power and accountability, one that allows Africa to reclaim its voice, realign its institutions and define development on its own terms.

Our Values - Economic Empowerment

Without economic empowerment everything falls apart. This is the thread with which we weave the fabric of our relevance on the world stage. This is one of the core pillars of what we hope to accomplish.
