Our theme for the month of June is
Neocolonialism, imperialism and agents

This week, we look inward. Foreign control doesn’t persist on its own. It requires gatekeepers. Across the continent, elites have positioned themselves as brokers of access, trading community interests for personal gain. Through land deals, political appointments or silence in the face of injustice, these leaders have selfishly helped entrench the very systems that undermine African sovereignty.

This month’s Policy Paper peels the layers of neocolonial influence in Africa. It looks into how control is maintained without direct rule and how dependency is reinforced through systems that reward alignment with external agendas. Breaking this pattern means looking beyond external pressures to also confront the internal actors and beliefs that uphold them. We are calling for a deeper understanding of power and accountability, one that allows Africa to reclaim its voice, realign its institutions and define development on its own terms.

Nobesuthu Trish Ndlovu

Nobesuthu Trish Ndlovu is the Head of Support Units within TAF Central Chapters. She is a human rights advocate that is also a Pan-Africanist who firmly believes in the power of inter-African cooperation for the prosperity of the African continent.

Head of Research & Policy: Responsible for research-driven implementable-policy development, policy prioritisation, research integrity & quality, inter-Focus Unit research & policy coordination and thought leadership. Requires relevant policy-sector experience.

Head of Engagement: Responsible for impactful delivery of external engagement with & through policy development & implementation stakeholders (including members & partners and TAF commercial business models), inter-Focus Unit engagement coordination and thought leadership. Requires relevant, but not specific policy-sector, experience.

Head of Communications: Responsible for internal & external communications (incl. brand, strategy & execution) for the Focus Unit and intra-TAF coordination. Requires relevant, but not specific policy-sector, experience.

Head of Support Unit: Responsible for strategic & operational finance, governance & controls, legal and HR. Requires relevant, but not specific policy-sector, experience.

Deputy CEO: Responsible for coordination & prioritisation of leadership team & unit activities. Requires organisation or large team management experience.
