Our theme for the month of June is
Neocolonialism, imperialism and agents

African education systems continue to follow models that were never meant to build independent nations. What is taught, how it is taught and who defines success still reflect external influence. From foreign languages in the classroom to borrowed economic theories, our education prepares students to seek approval elsewhere rather than solve problems at home. When local history is sidelined and independent thinking discouraged, the outcome is not just poor education, but an insidious, lasting form of control as well.

Neocolonialism, imperialism and agents

This month’s Policy Paper peels the layers of neocolonial influence in Africa. It looks into how control is maintained without direct rule and how dependency is reinforced through systems that reward alignment with external agendas. Breaking this pattern means looking beyond external pressures to also confront the internal actors and beliefs that uphold them. We are calling for a deeper understanding of power and accountability, one that allows Africa to reclaim its voice, realign its institutions and define development on its own terms.
