TAF Nigeria Chapter is hosting a powerful virtual discussion on how historical colonial extraction continues to worsen Nigeria’s environmental crisis and how internal systems enable its persistence. The event will challenge both global actors and local institutions to take responsibility and offer a bold vision for a future where Nigeria’s environment, economy and people are no longer treated as expendable. Be part of that conversation here.

Reclaiming Africa | Building a Decolonised Future Together
2pm GMT | 3pm WAT | 4pm CAT | 5pm EAT

As global systems shift and the colonial scaffolding continues to influence Africa's political, economic and cultural realities, it is more urgent than ever to ask: What does it truly mean to decolonise? And how do we begin? Join us here this Saturday for a powerful X Space conversation.

Reclaiming Africa

Our theme for the month of July is
Neocolonialism, imperialism and agents

Media is one of the strongest ways ideas spread. It's also one of those key forces that can either keep the same systems going or shake them up. Most media outlets in Africa are locally owned but rely heavily on international wire services, partnerships, training programmes and donor funding. That means even though the building is African, the furniture inside often reflects what’s coming from outside. But there are shifts happening. Podcasts, community broadcasts and direct messaging channels are creating new space for people to share what matters to them.

Neocolonialism, imperialism and agents

This month’s Policy Paper peels the layers of neocolonial influence in Africa. It looks into how control is maintained without direct rule and how dependency is reinforced through systems that reward alignment with external agendas. Breaking this pattern means looking beyond external pressures to also confront the internal actors and beliefs that uphold them. We are calling for a deeper understanding of power and accountability, one that allows Africa to reclaim its voice, realign its institutions and define development on its own terms.
