TAF Sierra Leone | Systemic Weaknesses & Structural Reform
5:30pm GMT | 6:30pm WAT | 7:30pm CAT | 8:30pm EAT

Sierra Leone’s health system, still reeling from past crises like Ebola and COVID-19, faces persistent underfunding, weak infrastructure, governance gaps and inequitable rural access. TAF Sierra Leone is hosting a panel discussion examining the dual challenges of health care and education reform in Sierra Leone, with lessons for Africa at large. Register here to be part that conversation.

Systemic Weaknesses & Structural Reform in Sierra Leone

Our theme for the month of September is
The ideal education system for Africa - in context of the colonial system

Education reform is now entirely about survival. Without strong education systems, every other reform remains fragile. With them, young people gain the skills, confidence and responsibility to build societies that are resilient, independent and free from dependency. The choices we make now will decide whether the future is built by us or whether our paths continue to be dictated.

The ideal education system for Africa

This month’s Policy Paper looks at how Africa’s education systems were built under colonial rule and still operate according to priorities that are not our own. The structure, language and content remain tied to a legacy of control rather than empowerment, encouraging memorisation over critical thinking and failing to develop the skills needed to lead and problem-solve. Reclaiming our education calls for a complete rethinking of what learning is for. It must be grounded in African realities, guided by African values and designed to prepare learners not just to pass, but to build, question and create.
