2025 TAF Ubuntu Celebrations

Ubuntu is a living philosophy carried through centuries of African wisdom. Rooted in the Nguni Bantu languages of Southern Africa, Ubuntu can be loosely translated as “humanity,” yet its true essence runs much deeper. It is the profound recognition that a person is only a person through others. This philosophy shaped the way African communities lived, where the success of the individual was always tied to the strength of the community. In the face of struggle, Ubuntu taught compassion. In times of plenty, it called for sharing. In leadership, it reminded us that power must serve the people. Ubuntu is not merely an idea; it is the heartbeat of African identity, a reminder that our humanity is bound together, and that the dignity of one is the dignity of all.

Creativity Competition

TAF Creativity Competition 2025

The African Federation invites Africans everywhere (on the continent and in the diaspora) to take part in the Ubuntu Creativity Competition 2025. This is your chance to express what Ubuntu means to you, your community and our shared African future. The deadline for submissions is 30 September 2025. All submissions can be sent to communications@theafricanfederation.org.

Participants can submit their work in any of the following forms:

  • Essay
  • Poem
  • Visual Art (Digital or Hand-drawn)

Winners will be spotlighted on TAF’s social media platforms.
All participants will be invited to the Ubuntu Celebration Online Event on 29 November 2025, where winners will present their submissions before a Pan-African audience.
This is an opportunity to join voices across Africa in shaping how we tell our own story through creativity, unity and Ubuntu.

This is our second annual competition, for more information about our inaugural competition, please visit the 2024 TAF Ubuntu Celebrations page.

Ubuntu Stories

Ubuntu is about community, connection and the understanding that “I am because we are.” Across Africa, Ubuntu has taken shape in countless ways: in the ways families support each other, in how communities rise together during hardship, and in how individuals give of themselves for the greater good.

The TAF Ubuntu Stories Collection is an open call to Africans everywhere to share personal stories that bring Ubuntu to life. These can be:

  • Moments of solidarity in your community
  • Acts of kindness that embody our shared humanity
  • Reflections on how Ubuntu has shaped your life, family or society
  • Stories passed down from elders that preserve the wisdom of Ubuntu

We are looking for real, authentic experiences. Your story does not have to be grand or dramatic, it only needs to be true. Ubuntu lives in both the everyday and the extraordinary. Whether it’s about a village that came together in crisis, a teacher who uplifted a generation or a personal journey of learning to give and receive humanity, your voice matters. Why would one share these unique experiences?

  • To keep alive the philosophy of Ubuntu across generations
  • To inspire others through lived African experiences
  • To contribute to a growing archive of African wisdom, resilience and solidarity

Selected stories will be featured as part of TAF’s Ubuntu Celebrations, shared across platforms and preserved as part of our collective Pan-African narrative. Contributors may also be invited to speak or share their stories at Ubuntu events. Send us your story (written or video in English) to communications@theafricanfederation.org before 30 September 2025. There are no strict rules about length or format, what matters most is honesty and clarity.
