Africa’s economic potential remains shackled not only by external pressures, but by the very systems our own leaders and elites have allowed to persist. TAF Nigeria invites policymakers, scholars, civil society advocates and concerned citizens to a critical online dialogue: “Unmasking Systems that Constrain African Economic Development: The Role of Local Leadership.”
In this session, we will:
- Expose the Colonial Legacy behind today’s governance, trade, finance and debt structures that still favor foreign interests.
- Examine Elite Complicity in neoliberal reforms, patronage networks and extractive policies that undermine homegrown industries.
- Challenge NGO Dependence by highlighting how donor-driven projects can weaken state capacity and entrench dependency.
- Explore the Power of Narrative in media and education, and how a decolonised curriculum can foster genuine sovereignty.
- Propose African-Centered Solutions for leadership accountability, debt renegotiation and institution-building that put citizens first.
- Guided by cutting-edge research and real-world examples, this roundtable will spotlight the internal-external nexus that stifles progress, and chart actionable pathways toward true economic self-determination. Join us as we hold leadership to account, reclaim our narrative, and forge a development agenda that reflects Africa’s collective aspirations.
Register now to be part of the conversation and help redefine Africa’s economic future on our own terms so that by 2050, Africa will be a superpower for the many rather than the few.
