TAF Twitter Space | Greenwashed Imperialism

June 14, 2025 2pm Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) | 3pm West Africa Time (WAT) | 4pm Central Africa Time (CAT) | 5pm East Africa Time (EAT)

This discussion explores the intersection of foreign investment, concession frameworks, and environmental governance in Africa, with a focus on how these dynamics play out in resource-rich countries like Zimbabwe, Gabon, and Mozambique. Using findings from the TAF ENV-CFU research, the session will unpack how foreign-controlled extractive projects impact ecological integrity, community rights, and national sovereignty. Participants will engage with case-specific insights, challenge systemic regulatory weaknesses, and explore pathways toward fairer and more sustainable resource governance models.

Objectives:
- To critique the ways global climate and environmental solutions—such as green extractivism and externally-driven conservation models—reinforce ecological harm and governance inequalities in African contexts.
- To elevate indigenous and local environmental knowledge systems as vital tools for shaping just, community-centered approaches to environmental governance and climate resilience

Host: Dylan Dzenga, CEO, TAF Environment
Speaker: Dickens Adanje, Senior Research Officer, TAF Environment
