Education is never neutral - it either liberates or it conditions. For far too long, Africa’s curricula have carried the imprint of colonial design, prioritising Eurocentric perspectives while sidelining indigenous knowledge systems, languages and philosophies.
This TAF Wellness X-Space will bring together researchers, educators and thought leaders to reimagine education for Africa, one rooted in our histories, identities and aspirations. We will explore:
- African knowledge systems such as Ubuntu, communalism and oral traditions as foundational pillars for learning.
- Curriculum reform that aligns with African development goals and celebrates our heroes, history and solutions.
- Linguistic decolonisation, ensuring that language in education fosters pride, identity and inclusion.
- Community-led curriculum design, where students, elders, and cultural leaders play an active role in shaping learning content.
- Policy pathways for institutionalising African-centered reforms across the continent.
Participants will gain insights into how Africa can create a curriculum that not only educates but also empowers, equipping learners to innovate, lead and preserve Africa’s cultural and intellectual heritage.
This is not just about what we teach, but about the Africa we are building.
