The African Federation continues Ubuntu Month with a powerful conversation on the future of African leadership, grounded not in hierarchy or individualism, but in Ubuntu’s ethic of service, shared responsibility and collective uplift.
Moderated by Lusalalira Allan, this engagement examines how Ubuntu can reshape political, corporate, civic and community leadership across Africa, and what it will take to build leaders who reflect the continent’s cultural wisdom and communal values.
Key Themes & Guiding Questions
1. Redefining Ubuntu-Centric Leadership
What does leadership look like when measured not by power, but by service? We explore the shift from individualistic models toward Ubuntu-driven leadership rooted in community well-being, accountability and shared growth.
2. Integrating Ubuntu Ethics into Modern Systems
How can compassion, empathy and collective responsibility be operationalised within African institutions? The session looks at political and organisational examples where Ubuntu principles succeed and where they fall short.
3. Civic Movements & Intergenerational Mentorship
With insights led by Mr. Hymanon Sesay, we examine how Ubuntu strengthens civic movements and why mentorship between generations is essential for nurturing ethical, resilient leaders for the future.
4. The Nexus of Intelligence: Mental, Communal & Emotional
We explore how IQ, emotional intelligence and communal intelligence intersect in African leadership and discuss practical ways to cultivate these capacities.
5. Overcoming Barriers to Ubuntu Leadership
What systemic and cultural barriers prevent Ubuntu-centric leadership today? And what bold steps can Africa take to embed these values into governance, institutions and everyday leadership by 2050?
This session invites all Africans, leaders, youth, community builders and changemakers to co-create the leadership blueprint needed for Africa’s collective transformation.
